Kreisleriana unfolds with sudden mood swings, alternating feverish outbursts and nocturnal reveries that require sustaining dramatic tension while shifting color from section to section. You will need to focus particularly on Hand Independence (4.6/5) — here that means keeping contrasting lines simultaneously, often with the hands playing opposing rhythms and characters — and on Nuance (4.6/5), demanding very fine control of pianissimos and accents to render subtle inner voices and expressive inflections. In Schumann's catalogue, this work is one of his most emblematic pieces for solo piano, often seen as central to his pianistic output for its concentrated, capricious character.
