This piece feels like a brisk, playful clog dance, with a jumping melody over a crisp, percussive accompaniment that demands a keen sense of bounce and rhythmic accuracy. Technically, pay close attention to the Polyrhythm 2 against 3 (3.1/5): you must internalize the separate subdivisions and lock the shared pulse by coordinating precise attacks between the two pianos; and to the Impressionist Style (3.1/5): here that means balancing harmonic colors, refining nuance and resonance so chords stay transparent amid the rhythmic drive. Placed in Grainger's modern period, it reflects his tendency to rework earlier material into rhythmically vivid, coloristic pieces for two pianos.
