This piece has a contemplative, chant-like character, with modal sonorities that call for slow, attentive shaping of the contrapuntal lines. Technically, focus on Legato (2.5/5): you must maintain smooth connection across hand shifts to preserve the sung quality of the lines, and on Phrasing (2.5/5) where you shape small expressive arcs to bring out the interweaving voices without overstating them. It is a Renaissance motet, typical of Tallis’s liturgical polyphonic output and illustrative of his restrained voice-leading and counterpoint. I will not suggest a specific reference recording here because I am not fully certain of a single widely recognized interpretation for this exact piece in piano transcription.
