This Toccata feels sharp and driving: it maintains continuous forward motion, strong contrasts of attack and a showy virtuosity more than introspective lyricism. You will notably face Passages rapides (4.4/5), which require independent fingers and economical wrist motion to keep fast runs clear and precise, and Staccato (4.4/5), which calls for crisp, controlled finger attacks with an immediate release to prevent the sound from becoming muffled. Placed in the Romantic tradition, it functions as a characterful, virtuosic piano piece within the composer's output rather than as a salon miniature. I do not give a reference performance here because I am not fully certain of a definitive recording for this specific work.
