This march combines a bright, almost military drive in the tutti passages with lyrical breaths that call for controlled energy rather than raw power. You will need to focus on Tempo rubato (3.1/5), shaping small expressive tempo flexions while remaining tightly coordinated with your partner, and on the sustain pedal (3.1/5), using careful half-pedaling and timely releases to connect chords without blurring the textures. The piece belongs to the Romantic period and is part of Liszt’s set of two-piano transcriptions/arrangements, bringing a popular march into his pianistic repertoire. I do not give a recommended recording here out of caution.
